Kathryn McCabe
Kathryn McCabe has dedicated her career to improving student academic skills through volunteer tutoring. She implemented Lend-A-Hand Tutoring at the Chicago Bar Association in 2016 and introduced a special curriculum for students with learning differences to the program in 2024.
Prior to coming to Lend-A-Hand, Kathryn was the executive director at Cluster Tutoring (now Learning Edge) on the far west side of Chicago for 15 years, where she worked with board members and community partners to more than triple the program’s enrollment, implement a comprehensive structured reading project, and add college access programming for high school students.
In 2025, Kathryn became a certified tutor in the Orton-Gillingham approach through the Children’s Dyslexia Center in LaGrange, Illinois. Her certification required 45 hours of classroom instruction and 100 hours of practicum work tutoring two students twice a week under the supervision of qualified professionals.
Kathryn got her start in tutoring as a volunteer with the tutoring program at the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago, where she also chaired that program’s volunteer board for many years. Kathryn has a degree in economics from Butler University and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
