Create a Fundraiser — Mac or PC

Happy birthday and thanks for hosting a Facebook Fundraiser for Lend-A-Hand!

Creating a fundraiser is not hard to do, but let Kathryn McCabe know if you have any problems or questions.

GET STARTED
First, go to Lend-A-Hand’s Facebook Fundraiser page. 

On a PC or Mac, you will land on a page that says “Your Name’s fundraiser for the SunTimes Judge Marovitz…” It should look like this:

Now you can edit the details of your fundraiser and tell your Facebook friends about our program. Look on the left side of the screen under Details to customize your copy.

Step 1:
Starting with the text positioned under the Edit nonprofit button, customize the information for your Birthday Fundraiser by clicking the text you want to change:

First, edit the default text to show

• how much money you want to raise (goal amount),
• the currency (US Dollars),
• the end date of the fundraiser, and
• the title of your fundraiser. If it’s your birthday, you might want to call it “[Your name]'sBirthday Fundraiser for Lend-A-Hand Tutoring.”  ​

Step 2:
Next comes your pitch (Why are you raising money?). There is some default text that starts off “Want to join me in supporting…” and describes what we do at Lend-A-Hand. 

We suggest that you tell folks that you are one of our volunteers so they know why Lend-A-Hand is near and dear to your heart. You also might want to remind them that your birthday is coming up, and that’s why you are doing this. ​

Step 3:
Pick a photo. Facebook will automatically load the cover photo from the Lend-A-Hand Facebook page. To select a different photo, hit the edit button located at the top right of the picture on the left side of the screen—it looks like a deck of cards with + on it. From there, you can choose a different photo from Lend-A-Hand’s page, or upload your own photo from your computer.

Your friends may be extra motivated to donate if they see a picture of you with your student. We would be happy to take a picture of the two of you so you can use it in your fundraiser. 

Step 4:
Click the Create button to publish your fundraiser and share it to your Facebook timeline. It’s always a good idea to kick off your fundraiser by making the first contribution. This way, your friends and family will know that you are serious about Lend-A-Hand and join in!​

PROMOTE AND TRACK YOUR FUNDRAISER

Step 5:
Now it’s time to promote your fundraiser to your friends. A pop-up box will automatically ask you to select what friends you want to invite to the fundraiser. We suggest hitting the “Select All” button. 

Then a post will pop up for you to share this on your timeline. You can further personalize it with a message before clicking on “Share.” 

We recommend that you invite your friends AND share the post to your timeline. 

Step 6:
Track the progress of your fundraiser. There are many ways to go to your fundraiser page. One way is to click on your Facebook home page (house icon). Scroll down the left side of the screen and click on “Fundraisers.” You should be able to see your Lend-A-Hand fundraiser. 

You’ll be able to see who donated, and you can post a quick thank you message directly under their donation notification. 
Don’t forget to keep re-sharing your fundraiser post to your profile and make sure to keep your friends updated on your progress.
